We recently revamped our restaurant review policy to allow the inclusion of select chain restaurants like Chili's, Barbacoa and Pei Wei.
Pei Wei located in the Sugar House District is tucked just off 21st South into one of the new strip malls in the area.
For a fast food restaurant, Pei Wei has an interesting interior, very upscale yet by requiring ordering by standing in a line soon shows it fast food side.
We ordered three bowls of their new Japanese Chili Beef Ramen Noodle dish that was being promoted on their really cool digital menus at the door.
After what seemed an long wait, especially for fast food, we received our three identical bowls.
Now I'm not sure if it was simply an error but the beef distribution wasn't exactly even among the three dishes. My bowl overflowed with just the right amount of beef to noodle, and my dining partners had a very few pieces tucked here and there among their ramen noodles. This may have been due to preparing all three dishes at once rather than three separate pans. I'm not sure why but it was obvious enough to pang me with guilt and into sharing.
Aside from the beef distribution the dish was pleasant and spicy but not too much, of course I didn't eat any of the spicy hot red peppers on top. The wedge of lime did well squeezed on top of the beef.
For a per person price of $6.75 Pei Wei delivered a filling dish in a clean, pleasant atmosphere. The music however cool, was a bit weird and out of place, I kind of expected to hear the Cantina song from Star Wars at some point during our meal.
Overall Rating: B+
