Dee’s Restaurants are a Utah institution. Many may remember the jingle driving parents mad to take the kids to Dee’s.
"Let's go to Dee's, let's all go to Dee's, that's what Daddy says and the family all agrees, Dee's Burgers, Cheese Burgers, hot dogs and shakes, everything a taste delight, apple turn-overs, french fries, for goodness sakes, let's all go to Dee's tonight!".
The drive-in versions are long gone, bought out in the 80’s to become Hardee’s Restaurants. The stand-alone sit-down restaurants continue to survive today though a few more closed in the early 2000’s to become Walgreens.
Dee’s Restaurants are a typical family style diner with a standard menu consisting of breakfast any-time, lunch items, sandwiches and dinner plates. A different special each month at under $5-$6 attracts a regular crowd.
Known for it’s late night color and good hot coffee and friendly service.
I’m particularly fond of the California Chicken Sandwich, a good lowfat choice for late night dining. Of course you have to refrain from the large side of fries that comes with it. The Philly Steak and Cheese, hold the mayo with a side of au ju (special request) is another good plentiful choice.
While visiting the 21st South location, take a look at the old menu on the wall, including $0.05 hamburgers.
