We heard about the Spring Chicken Inn for years, folklore had it as the place to go for the best chicken dinner in the state. One friend commented when we told her of our dinner plans, "I love the Spring Chicken Inn, I wonder where they find them Dolly Parton chickens"?.
The location in Wanship Utah is a bit off the beaten path but after our recent visit I must confess that it's worth the trip if you're in the area or you're hankering a unique dining experience.
Famous for their chicken dinner, a tradition since 1930 we of course ordered three plates of their trademark dish and waited patiently for them to arrive. While waiting we couldn't help but notice that just about everyone ordered the same thing, that and large orders of hand battered onion rings.
Our heaping platters arrived after about a 25 minute wait, we were warned that each order is prepared fresh so don't expect to dash in and out unless you call ahead.
The chicken pieces were large, hanging over the edge of the plate. A crispy batter coated every inch of the big pieces of chicken, with a bit of a salty taste but very wonderful. I nearly cleaned every morsel off each bone.
We were left with a few pieces which we took home to enjoy for lunch the following day, reheated in the oven for about 15 minutes they were just as enjoyable as the night before.
If you're in the area, stop on in at the Spring Chicken Inn and tell them you're there for their famous chicken dinner, you'll be glad you did.
