Stepping into Coachman's Dinner and Pancake restaurant is like stepping back in-time, and at the same time stepping into the surreal.
Upon entering you immediately notice the somewhat dated decor, and waitress’s that seem to all have similar characteristics. If you've ever seen the Seinfeld episode with the diner waitresses (the owner’s daughters) you'll get the idea that they were selected on appearances over server aptitude.
The food at Coachman's is either (a.) really, really good or (b.) mediocre at best. A recent visit afforded us both (a.) and (b.) I ordered the trout dinner, a perfectly breaded piece of Utah rainbow trout prepared by hand. Served with minestrone soup, a dinner salad, and delicious house roll and butter.
The waitress delivered my salad, soup and roll followed shortly thereafter by a trout salad (not what I ordered). When I alerted her to the mistake, she inquired if I was sure? Did she already give me my soup and salad? she asked. I assured her that she had, and she quickly whisked my trout salad entrée away with an apology.
When my entrée finally arrived it was served with an overcooked vegetable medley of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots which was a surprise because my previous visit the vegetables appeared to be fresh garden picked vegetables that were cooked al dente (a little crunchy) just like I like them.
The overall visit was enjoyable, the trout was absolutely delicious and perfectly de-boned. The trout salad entrée is also a good choice if you’re looking for something a little lighter.
