Sapa opened after a long custom build out of a former dilapidated bookstore on State Street. From entering the lobby and into any of the three seating areas the decor is absolutely fabulous. The twisty glass lamps and lanterns are luminous and gorgeous. The actual temples on the patio were shipped from China and meticulously rebuilt by hand.
The service experience of our waitress was a bit lacking, drinks lagged, appetizer took forever and entrees arrived haphazardly. From what I've heard from others some of this may have been due to them still not having their timing right but they have since improved in the arrival times.
The food was delicious, portions ample for two. We tried the calamari appetizer, the sushi rolls were fantastic and were quickly devoured. The Asian salad dish was interesting, lots of various fish and greens. The steak came sliced, not what I expect when I hear Fillet Mignon but the sauce was fabulous and perfect to accompany but not smother the meat.
Sapa Sushi Restaurant and Asian Bar is a wonderful place to relax on the patio in-season, or to snug into a booth during Utah's long winters for some fresh sushi.
