Aristos is an upscale Greek restaurant and cafe located near the University of Utah on 1300 East.
Admittedly we arrived near the end of dinner service, about 15 minutes before closing but there were still patrons seated at the patio and inside. We selected the patio, streetside.
Upon recommendation from the server we opted for the short order of Lamb Ribs, barebcued on an open grill out on the patio. BBQ was only being served on Thursday nights through the summer and being near the end of the season we thought this ought to be good. We also ordered Wide Cut Calamari spelled Kalamari with a Spicy Marinara?
Dinner arrived fairly fast, the ribs, well saying they were burnt would be polite. They were charcoaled. Knowing lamb is fatty it would seem that the chefs would know that slow, smoky heat was the only way to serve up lamb ribs. Eventually cutting through to the meat it was juicy, but very fatty. Too little salvageable to make it worth the order and I was covered with bits of charcoaled ribs.
The side homemade potato chips and tabbouleh salad were excellent and very fresh tasting. The pita, missing olive oil for diping but I assume most also order a hummus or dip as an appetizer. The calamari was crispy and tender, a great dish and served with plenty of lemon.
I will give Aristos the benefit of having a bad service and give them a try again in the future. I will also hold my rating until my next visit and review.
